Avangrid Inc, a leading US sustainable energy company, has confirmed the initiation of commercial operations for its 106-MW wind farm in Henry County, Illinois. The facility, named Midland Wind, features 25 turbines and officially reached its commercial operation date in December 2023.

Midland Wind is expected to generate close to 400 GWh of electricity annually, providing sufficient power for approximately 37,000 homes. The facility marks Avangrid's fourth wind farm in Illinois, joining Providence Heights Wind, Otter Creek Wind, and Streator Cayuga Ridge South in the state.

Avangrid's commitment to renewable energy in Illinois is further emphasized by the addition of Midland Wind, bringing the company's total generation capacity in the state to over 600 MW. The US-wide renewables portfolio of Avangrid now boasts more than 8.6 GW of installed capacity.

The successful commencement of Midland Wind's commercial operations contributes to Avangrid's mission of expanding clean and sustainable energy resources across the United States. As the company continues to invest in renewable projects, the newly operational wind farm plays a key role in advancing Illinois' renewable energy landscape and supporting the transition to a more sustainable future.
