SIU Medicine Offers Virtual Series on Farm Succession Planning

Considering farming for a few years? Stepping back? Or something in-between? Join us for an upcoming live virtual series, "Planning for the Farm's Future and Yours." The programs are designed to assist farmers and farm families in developing a succession plan for future generations. Wesley Tucker, a field specialist in agricultural business at the University of Missouri Extension, and Monica McConkey, an agricultural mental health counselor from Minnesota, will guide the series discussions.

Three online sessions will focus on crucial aspects of farm succession planning. The first, "PLANTING THE SEEDS: The Process of Farm Succession Planning," is at 1:30 pm or 6:30 pm on Thursday, March 7. It will cover the basic steps for creating a succession plan and provide insights into key considerations.

The second session, "CULTIVATING COMMUNICATIONS: The Farm Meetings," will be at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, March 13. Participants will explore the types, purposes, participants and strategies for navigating differences in farm meetings.

The final session, "CHANGING ROLES: Who is Driving the Tractor?" is scheduled for at 6:30 pm Tuesday, March 19. Attendees will gain valuable insights into transitioning roles within the farm, gaining experience and mentoring future generations.
