The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) is hosting 31 international buyers from nine different countries as part of the 2024 Illinois Grain Tour.
The tour, which runs from September 9 to 12, aims to enhance relationships between Illinois agricultural producers and international buyers, creating opportunities for increased export sales of Illinois grains.
Buyers from Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, China, and Vietnam will participate in this year’s tour. They will visit key agricultural and grain facilities across Illinois, gaining insight into the state’s farming practices, grain production, and export capabilities.
The Illinois Grain Tour is designed to showcase the high-quality grain produced in the state while building relationships between local producers and international markets.
Illinois is a national leader in grain production, ranking first in soybean production and second in corn production. Nearly half of the state's grain is exported each year, generating billions of dollars in direct sales.
IDOA Director Jerry Costello II emphasized the significance of the tour in promoting Illinois' agricultural industry, noting the impact it can have on long-term trade partnerships. The 2023 Illinois Grain Tour had projected sales of more than $30 million, highlighting the value of this annual event.
Throughout the four-day tour, participants will visit several key facilities, including Melvin Price Locks & Dam, GSI, RTS Farm, Clarkson Grain, the Illinois Soybean Association, Marquis Energy, and others. These stops will give international buyers a firsthand look at Illinois’ advanced agricultural infrastructure and production capacity.
The tour not only fosters trade but also offers international buyers the chance to experience the innovation and dedication behind Illinois’ agricultural success.
Each participant is required to cover their airfare and a participation fee, ensuring a commitment to building meaningful business relationships.
