Illinois Gets 7 Days Suitable for Fieldwork



There were 7.0 days suitable for field work during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 54.9 degrees, 2.3 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.05 inches, 0.74 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 26 percent very short, 33 percent short, and 41 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 24 percent very short, 32 percent short, 43 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus.

Corn dented reached 95 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 98 percent. Corn mature reached 75 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 89 percent. Corn harvested for grain reached 27 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 43 percent. Corn condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 18 percent excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 89 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 87 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 31 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 43 percent. Soybean condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 16 percent excellent.

Winter wheat planted reached 16 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 29 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 2 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 7 percent.
