Mark your calendar for February 22, 2025, and immerse yourself in the world of gardening with the Macon County Master Gardeners. Taking place at Life Foursquare Church, this exciting event caters to both beginner and expert gardeners through a variety of classroom-style sessions. Youth activities, organized by 4-H, will include crafts, STEM, and gardening fun, providing a perfect day for families.
Registration Details
The event runs from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Registration begins at 8:00 AM, with a keynote presentation kicking off at 8:30 AM. The event fee is $25, and participants must register by February 14.
Keynote Speaker and Sessions
Bill "Mad Botanist" Knight, a seasoned botanist and author, will deliver the keynote on common gardening mistakes and misconceptions. Drawing from his vast experience, he’ll offer insights into practical and effective gardening techniques.
The schedule includes three informative sessions featuring various topics:
- Pollinators and Plants: Tips for creating pollinator-friendly gardens.
- Fruit Tree Pruning: Techniques for improving tree health and fruit yield.
- Spring Vegetable Gardening: Advice on planting and harvesting cool-weather crops.
- Creative and Hands-On Classes: Activities like painting flowers on glass or growing microgreens.
- Additional sessions cover shrub care, landscaping myths, native plants, tree maintenance, houseplant care, and even smartphone photography for garden enthusiasts.
Youth Activities and Vendors
While adults attend the sessions, youth (ages 5–18) can participate in supervised activities, offering a mix of creativity and learning. A range of garden-related items will also be available for purchase from local vendors throughout the day.
