Farmers face unique stressors that can impact their mental health. SIU Medicine's Farm Family Resource Initiative is hosting a virtual event titled "Fielding Resilience: Identifying and Supporting Struggling Farmers" on March 27. Led by Dr. Nick Weshinskey, the event aims to equip participants with tools to recognize signs of distress and provide support to farmers.

The event is open to farm families, agricultural professionals, community leaders, and healthcare providers interested in supporting farmers' well-being. Registration is free but space is limited, so early registration is recommended.

Supported by the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois Department of Agriculture, the program addresses mental health challenges prevalent in the agricultural industry. It offers resources and support for farmers grappling with stress, depression, and other mental health issues.

The Farm Family Resource Initiative, led by the SIU School of Medicine Center for Rural Health and Social Service Development, provides a helpline and resources to assist with mental and physical health needs of Illinois farm families. It also offers outreach, education, and training to improve the health and safety of rural farm communities.
