Avangrid, Inc., a prominent player in the sustainable energy sector and part of the Iberdrola Group, has unveiled plans for its fifth wind farm in Illinois. The project, dubbed Osagrove Flats and situated in La Salle County, will feature 34 wind turbines generating a combined capacity of 153 MW.
Pedro Azagra, CEO of Avangrid, expressed enthusiasm for the company's long-standing partnership with Illinois communities in the development of wind farms, marking a pivotal step in advancing the state's clean energy transition.
Expected to produce over 550,000 MWh annually, equivalent to powering 50,000 U.S. homes, Osagrove Flats holds promise for job creation. Construction is anticipated to generate around 300 employment opportunities, with additional permanent positions in operations and maintenance. Moreover, the wind farm is projected to contribute over $40 million in property taxes over its lifespan, bolstering local public services.
Avangrid's commitment to community collaboration is evident through initiatives like the $15,000 donation to the Village of Dana, benefiting essential services and infrastructure improvement. Joe Centeno, president of the Village of Dana, commended Avangrid's dedication, anticipating enduring benefits for the community.
Osagrove Flats joins Avangrid's portfolio of wind farms in Illinois, strengthening its total renewable energy capacity in the state to nearly 800 MW alongside existing projects like Streator Cayuga Ridge South, Midland, Otter Creek, and Providence Heights.
