Western Illinois University has appointed Keela Trennepohl as the interim director of its School of Agriculture. She began the role on June 1, following eight years of teaching animal science at WIU.

During this time, she also advised student ag clubs and managed the university’s Performance Bull Test and cow herd.

Trennepohl brings deep experience to the role, with a lifelong connection to the cattle industry.

She grew up on a cattle farm in southwest Wisconsin and currently operates True North Cattle, a registered Angus and Simmental business, with her husband Chris and daughters Maroska and Kort.

She emphasizes a strong student-first approach and promises to continue making students the center of all decisions. “You are the first priority,” she stated. “I promise to give you the best education possible to ensure your future success.”

Trennepohl believes the WIU agriculture program offers unmatched opportunities. She highlights its hands-on learning, supportive faculty, and vast global network as key strengths that help students build meaningful careers in agriculture.

Her goals for the program include growing its strengths in livestock production, plant breeding, sustainable agriculture, and business. She also aims to gain more support for agronomy and ag education.

Building partnerships across departments like business, science, education, and communication is part of her strategy to bring innovation and new energy to the program.

Trennepohl is determined to raise the profile of WIU Agriculture. “One of my goals is to have WIU Agriculture be one of the most sought-after programs in the country,” she said.

With a passion for agriculture and a commitment to student success, Trennepohl is ready to guide the program into a stronger and brighter future.
