Sneak Preview of Agronomy Day Program Offered

Agronomy Day at the University of Illinois is Aug. 22. The annual event is hosted by the Department of Crop Sciences, part of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at U of I, and is attended by hundreds of visitors from the regional farming community each year.

Printed booklets will be distributed at the event.

Agronomy Day begins at 7 a.m.. The event will be held at 4202 South 1st Street in Savoy.

Tours will be set up in multiple tents and buildings surrounding the main exhibitors' building, each with a unique sequence of presentations. A lunch program, starting at noon, will feature keynote speaker John Sullivan, director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, as well as remarks from University of Illinois chancellor Robert Jones, ACES dean Kim Kidwell, and Adam Davis, department head for crop sciences.

Additional speakers will be presenting research related to bioenergy and alternative cropping systems during an open house at the Energy Farm. That event will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. The Energy Farm is located a short drive from the Agronomy Day site, at 4110 Race St., in Urbana.
