Illinois Receives Above-Average Precipitation for Week

There were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 73.9 degrees. Precipitation averaged 1.11 inches, 0.28 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent very short, 31 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent very short, 29 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.

Corn dough reached 81 percent, compared to 54 percent last year. Corn dented reached 21 percent, compared to 8 percent last year. Corn condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 29 percent excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 95 percent, compared to 93 percent last year. Soybeans setting pods was at 84 percent, compared to 67 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 25 percent excellent.

Sorghum headed reached 68 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 62 percent. Sorghum coloring reached 25 percent, compared to 32 percent last year. Sorghum condition was rated at 6 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 62 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.
