Gardner Ag Policy Lecture, Farm Bureau Reception Set

The first-everl Gardner Agriculture Policy lecture featuring former USDA chief economist Joe Glauber will be presented on July 31 during an international reception prior to the Illinois Farm Bureau Income and Innovations Conference in Normal.

Hosted by the Gardner Agriculture Policy Program, and Illinois Farm Bureau, the event will feature lecturer Joe Glauber, senior fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute and former agriculture envoy at the U.S. Trade Representative's Office. His presentation is titled, "Trade Conflicts: What is at Stake for U.S. Agriculture."

"As concern increases about the current directions in trade policy and its impact on farmers and the farm economy, Dr. Glauber will bring his considerable expertise and vast experience to the Illinois Farm Bureau conference, helping to initiate the Gardner Agricultural Policy Lecture," says Jonathan Coppess, director of the Gardner Ag Policy Program and assistant professor in agricultural economics at the University of Illinois. "This lecture was designed as part of the innovative agreement to apply the Gardner gift to the U of I towards helping better inform national policy discussions, provide more information to Illinois farmers, and elevate the university's role."

The lecture will be held at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Normal and will go from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
