Illinois Cash Crop Planting Progress Well Ahead of Average

There were 1.6 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 63.9 degrees, 1.5 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.12 inches, 0.23 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 53 percent adequate, and 47 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 40 percent surplus.

Corn planted reached 89 percent compared to the previous year at 32 percent and the 5-year average of 82 percent. Corn emerged reached 66 percent compared to the previous year at 17 percent and the 5-year average of 69 percent. Corn condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted reached 65 percent compared to the previous year at 13 percent and the 5-year average of 56 percent. Soybeans emerged reached 37 percent compared to the previous year at 6 percent and the 5-year average of 33 percent.

Winter wheat headed was at 82 percent compared to the previous year at 74 percent and the 5-year average of 87 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 12 percent excellent.
