Illinois Ag Connection - 04/13/2018

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research, this week met with 4-H youth delegates and University of Illinois Extension staff members on issues that are important to the 13th district. This meeting followed a briefing yesterday where 4-H delegates, including Ryder Flener from Illinois, presented to the House Agriculture Committee members on the importance of agriculture in the United States.

"It is amazing to see these young leaders engaging in the conversation and standing up for the future of agriculture," Davis said. "The meeting with delegates from Illinois and the presentations from them in front of the committee are a great reminder of why we must continue to invest in research and the extension mission at land-grant universities, like the University of Illinois. The future of ag is in good hands."

The House Agriculture Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research, which Davis chairs, welcomed 15 4-H students from across the country to brief members on a variety of issues related to agriculture. One of the presenters, Ryder Flener, is from Elizabethtown, Ill.

The 4-H students are in Washington, D.C., as part of the National 4-H Conference and met with various lawmakers, committees, and federal agencies to discuss the challenges of food and fiber production. Davis met with several delegates from 4-H in Illinois and the University of Illinois Extension to discuss the specific challenges related to the 13th district of Illinois.
